Mayor Marries Couple at Medina Antique Mall
Happy Couple Married in the Same Place They Met
Monday, January 7,2002

Mayor marries couple at Medina Antique Mall.

MEDINA, Ohio — The customer is always right. Betty Given can confirm that statement.

She and Tom Brown met at the Medina Antique Mall in May 1997. Given worked for the mall doing floor sales and Tom had joined as a dealer. When the two got engaged, Brown suggested they get married in the mall. Given really didn’t like the idea, until a regular customer of theirs suggested it. “I got to thinking Tom’s idea wasn’t so bad after all,” said Given. “We decided we couldn’t pick any better place.”

On Dec. 9, Betty Given and Tom Brown tied the knot in a small, closed ceremony at the Medina Antique Mall. Given’s sister, Carol Rolfe, served as her matron of honor, and Brown’s son, Mason Brown, stood as his father’s best man. Other guests included Given’s sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Harold Wilson, Brown’s daughter and her fiancé, Amie Brown and Lance Bolender, and the mall’s employees. Presiding over the ceremony was Chippewa Lake Mayor William Schmock.
The newlyweds honeymooned at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, Ohio, and were grateful for the unusually warm December weather. And, of course, they did a little antiquing as well. “We didn’t find anything fabulous, but we had fun doing it,” said the new Mrs. Brown.

The Browns have both been in the business of antiques for a while; Tom for 10 years, Betty for six. “My husband specializes in the old and unusual,” said Mrs. Brown. She listed old saddles and sports memorabilia as a few of his specialties. The finer things in life are more her style, though, with silver and jewelry topping her list.

The couple owns Black River Antiques, operating their business primarily out of their home and the Medina Antique Mall.
